IE 8 "Favorites" will sometimes not allow additions
When I attempt to adda certainwebpage to my favorites, I get the following message "Unable to create (Name of Webpage). Unspecified error."I tried adding another webpage and it added properly.Details: Newly installed Windows 7 x64. After installation, I deleted contents of "Favorites" folder and copied contents of Favorites folder from another machine. Subfolder that I attempted to add URL already has 76 entries (is there a maximum number of entries per subfolder?).

Still getting the error. I was able to add the website to the favorites file, but not to the subfolder. So then I tried to cut and paste it into the proper folder. I didn't get the "paste' command in the right click context menu. So then I tried drag and drop. It dragged all right, but the drop didn't work. I then checked the "properties" of the subfolder, and it was "read only". I removed that designation and tried again. Failure. This is weird!

Hi RCoover,This behavior that the inability to create favorites in IE 8 results from "integrity control" or some such. Even if you have all the seemingly correct file-level permissions, you still can't modify files/folders if the PROGRAM that you are running has the wrong "integrity" setting. When IE runs in protected mode, it has "low" integrity, and by default, "low" integrity programs can't modify anything. So IE in protected mode can't modify its own favorites folder. We can follow the below steps to check this issue: 1. In the "Start" menu, Click All Programs, Accessories, locate "Command Prompt". Right-click and choose "Run as Administrator". If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. 2. Type the following commands, then press "Enter" to execute them one by one. Please note the space before the command and its parameter. icacls C:\Users\<YourUsername>\Favorites /setintegritylevel (OI)(CI)low Note: If your user name is RCoover, the command should be icacls C:\Users\RCoover\Favorites /setintegritylevel (OI)(CI)low You should get a confirmation message saying "processed file: C:\Users\RCoover\Favorites", and then another line saying Successfully processed 1 files; Failed processing 0 files. 3. Close the window and restart the computer 4. Open IE 8 and try to add a certain webpage to Favorites to test this issue. Hopeful the above information can help you solve this issue.Betty
